At the end of 2004, Aron Thornley and Gareth Davies met in a pub somewhere in North London after one of them had placed an ad in a local music magazine.

Gareth was a lead guitarist and had been writing some of his own stuff, while Aron was a singer who played some guitar and was starting to write songs as well. This was the first ever meeting of any of the members of Carshalton Beeches. Both were wanting to work with someone else, and perhaps to get a band together to see what would come, and so agreed to start meeting up and playing together – usually at Gareth’s place in East London.

Aron had two songs he was working on, and both agreed to work with these songs. Eventually, when lead guitar parts and more lyrics were written, these two tunes became “Captain” and “War” – both songs on Carshalton Beeches’ first album. During 2005 Gareth and Aron got together with some friends and family in a Studio in Streatham, South London, to play these two tunes with drums, bass and keyboards for the first time.
